Why we built an accuracy-first Martyn's Law tool
Martyn's Law brings ordinary venues (pubs, village halls, churches, gyms, cafés) into counter-terrorism regulation. Most of them don't have a compliance department. They have a landlord, a committee, a vicar, a duty manager. This service exists so those people can meet the standard tier requirements with confidence, without a consultant.
Who's behind it
Martyn's Law Plan is built by Rory Murphy, a Surrey-based developer of practical compliance tools for small venues. It's independent and self-funded. No security products to upsell, no courses to push.
Why accuracy first
A lot of what's written online about Martyn's Law overstates the duties: £18 million fines (enhanced tier only) quoted at 250-capacity pubs, "mandatory" training and risk assessments the standard tier never requires. We take the opposite approach, partly on principle and partly because the Act itself demands it. Giving the regulator false or misleading information is a criminal offence (section 25). Accuracy isn't marketing polish here. It's the product.
How our pages are made
- Everything sourced. Every requirement we state traces to the Act or the statutory guidance, cited down to the paragraph. If we say "must", the law says must. If it's "should" or "could", we say that instead.
- Reviewed against GOV.UK. Guides are checked against the current official guidance and carry a visible "last reviewed" date. When the guidance changes, the pages change.
- We tell you what you don't need. No written plan is legally required at standard tier. No paid training, no equipment, no consultant. The guidance says so in terms, and the free official material can get you there if you have the time. We sell certainty and saved hours, not fear.
What we are not
We are not lawyers, and nothing on this site is legal advice. We are not affiliated with, approved by, or endorsed by the Home Office or the SIA. Our content is based on the official statutory guidance, which is a different thing, and we link to the official sources so you can check us. Venues of 800+ need more than software; we say so and point you to ProtectUK rather than pretending otherwise.
